"We came as soon as we could, Mike. What's up?"

Berk waved them into some armchairs and leaned forward, resting his arms on his desk.

"Yesterday afternoon, a package was delivered to the Monteverde embassy in Tokyo. It contained a note that was a ransom demand for ten million dollars for the safe release of Guillermo Arroyo. Arroyo is the nephew of the President of Monteverde, General Emmanuel Castilla Arroyo. It also contained a box. In the box was a piece of Arroyo's left pinkie finger.
