Kim returned just before seven, loaded down with half a dozen shopping bags. After asking if there were any news of Bill, she handed over most of the packages to Logan and suggested he settle in the guest bedroom.

"You'll probably be more comfortable out of your suit. Why don't you change while I fix supper?"

Logan carried the bags into a small bedroom, cheerful in spring yellows and greens. He found a pair of Levi's, a sports shirt, socks and underwear, a tooth brush and other toiletries, and a dark cotton robe called a yukata.

Reappearing several minutes later in his new clothes, Logan found Kim in the kitchen, removing a platter of yakitori from the microwave.
