Manhattan

The old man at the desk of the Bedford had two days of stubble on his face, fingers stained from nicotine and a hacking cough. He shrugged when he was shown the warrant, stubbed out the butt of his cigarette in a filthy ashtray and shuffled over to a small safe.

After his fourth attempt at the combination, he got it open and, rummaging about, finally removed a buff colored envelope with "Ikikawa" scrawled across it. He handed it to Cavallo, leaving his greasy fingerprints on the matt surface.

While Rodriguez had the man sign a receipt, Cavallo raised the flap, which was unsealed, and let the contents slide onto the top of the counter. Inside was an airline ticket and a passport. The airline ticket was for a JAL flight from New York to Tokyo, one way, business class, in the name of Jiro Ichikawa.
