Washington, D.C.

My opponents have accused me of racism, because of my views on the Japanese. I'd like to answer this accusation here tonight, if I may.

First, in all my years in the auto workers union and in my two terms as governor of Michigan, no one ever accused me of racial bias. I believe my record speaks for itself, especially my accomplishments in working with community leaders to improve the situation in the inner city of Detroit and making sure auto manufacturers met equal opportunity employment standards.
