Alex looked sleepily out of the window of the limousine bus which was taking him from Narita International Airport into Tokyo and watched the dreary cityscape go by. Was he glad to be back? He had been in Tokyo for over two years now and knew his way around, but he still felt like a stranger.
Back when he had requested to be transferred from headquarters to the field, he had wanted to get as far away from Washington as possible, as quickly as possible. Tokyo was as good as anywhere else. But the initial thrill of being in a foreign land had faded and, while he would have scorned any suggestion that he was homesick, he found himself thinking about home to an extent he found surprising.
