Itoh asked again if Michiko were all right. On her assurance that she felt a little shaky but otherwise was fine, he grunted and said she would not feel so well the next day.
Itoh opened the burled wood door of a cabinet built into the back of the front seat and gave Michiko a glass of water and two aspirins. Then he suggested that she relax until they arrived at his house.
Michiko not only relaxed, but fell sound asleep. The car's coming to a halt woke her. While the nap restored her frazzled emotions, she was already beginning to feel stiff and aching, as Itoh had predicted.
