Lori Lublin lived in a studio apartment in a brownstone on the Upper West Side, not very far, had she known it, from Logan Ewing.

It was a smaller and much less luxurious apartment than Michiko's, but it was hers and she was proud that a shopkeeper's daughter from Bayside, Queens had made it to the West Side of Manhattan.

Lori got home just after eight o'clock, having stopped at the gym for an aerobics class.

She slipped out of her shoes, clicked the remote to turn on the television and walked into a kitchen so tiny that if two strangers were trying to cook a meal in it at the same time, they would know each other very well when they were finished.
