The detective glared at Lowry, who smiled wryly, knowing Cavallo's eagerness to hear what his visitor had to say was at war with his reluctance to have Lowry hear it.

The young man swallowed, in the grip of emotion.

"I'm Tony Aiello. Danny was a friend of mine. We grew up together. He was...like a brother."

Tony stopped to get his voice back under control.

"Anyway, I had lunch with Danny on Monday. He was telling me about how the head of the bank where he worked had been stabbed. And then, the next day, he was stabbed too. I wondered if there was any connection."
